Elagabalus. Denarius
Elagabalus. 218-222 AD. Denarius, 2.63gg. (12h). Rome, 221-2 AD. Obv: IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Bust laureate, draped right, seen from front, with "horn". Rx: SVMMVS SACERDOS AVG Emperor in Syrian priestly dress sacrificing left at tripod altar and holding branch. The usual star in left field is omitted, apparently by engraver's error. RSC 276f (citing Tinchant catalogue). This variant without star on reverse is not in BMC, RIC, or Cohen. EF.
